GRIFFIN FIELD OF DREAMS
It Takes a Team!
Westminster School offers a program of academic excellence and personal development that stands out from all area schools, private and public. However, if Westminster is to continue to prosper and remain competitive in attracting families, its outside needs to reflect the excellence of the program being delivered inside. In recent years, Westminster has expanded and improved both its educational program and its physical plant. The next stage in the school’s evolution is the long-anticipated, exciting construction of a synthetic turf playing field and new playgrounds for preschool and older students. An earlier round of fundraising allowed Westminster to establish the groundwork for this project. Now, with land acquired for expansion, architectural and engineering plans in place, and approved permits by the county, we are excited to relaunch this project!
FAQ
The Field of Dreams Campaign seeks to partner with a Griffin Field Leadership Team of donors who are excited about and able to provide significant funding to launch this important project. Many are eager to give back to the school by supporting a project that will enrich the lives of students for years to come. The bold support of our leadership team will pave the way!
As a founding member of the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC), Westminster has fielded competitive teams in soccer, basketball, softball, and track and field since 1979. The athletic program has benefited our students in countless ways, encouraging physical fitness, developing game skills, providing lessons in teamwork and individual integrity, and boosting school spirit and a sense of community. Currently, however, the lack of available field space puts Westminster at a significant disadvantage to its peer schools, not only in athletic competition but in attracting families. Even the public schools currently offer turf playing fields. Dedicated field space would significantly improve access to physical education for Westminster students, facilitate league play, and attract additional families, a factor crucial to the school’s financial success.
Westminster’s finances are strong and enrollment is trending upwards, which should keep the school in a robust financial position in the years to come. The community has a core of dedicated leaders who are committed to the project and are supporting it with their time and their money. The 2022 celebration of the 60th anniversary of the school’s founding has renewed connections with alumni and families who still feel a connection with Westminster. And, more practically speaking, the window for starting construction under current permits is closing. The time is now for taking this important next step in the evolution of Westminster School.
The estimated cost of the project is $4.5 million. Westminster School hopes to raise as much of that as possible from donors, but the school is committed to completing this crucial project in any event.
Please consider making a meaningful donation which will not only significantly help fund the project but will also inspire similar gifts from others who value Westminster School.
